Ex-major leaguer held in Island Princess extortion plot
An advertising executive from Burbank, Gerald Hid ward Priddy, 53, was arrested in a $250,000 extortion scheme after two packages aboard the cruise ship Island Princess were found by the crew. Priddy allegedly threatened to reveal locations of the devices in exchange for money. Authorities identify him as a former major league infielder who played under the name Jerry Priddy. The ship, on a Mexican cruise from Los Angeles with 83 passengers, was towing toward Long Beach when bombs were found and discarded.
