Prison Break At Way State Penitentiary Hailed As Escape
Four convicts escaped from Way State Penitentiary after overpowering guards during a cell block assault. Leader Lloyd Woodson, 38, of Quincy, a life term for killing an officer, fled with Albert Sperger, 27, for robbery, and two others, Robert Jones, 25, of Fair Town, and Elan Girdler, 23, of Peoria, all serving 10 years. A wide search in nearby woods and ravines was ordered, but officers reported no trace as dawn broke.
