Police report a weekend burglary at the George McGuil residence 15226 Inverness Ave San Leandro. A master bedroom safe yielded 1500 dollars, including a 1934 Hawaiian bill, and a .38 caliber revolver from a nearby case after a window was broken and entry gained.
A 37 year old Fremont housewife Kathleen Was 50m of S47 Sheridan Road was rushed to Washington Hospital after her car ran off Sheridan Road struck an embankment and burst into flames. Her husband Paul pulled her from the burning vehicle. She is being treated for smoke inhalation in intensive care and listed in serious condition.
Hayward police halted a burglary bid by three youths two 17 year olds and one 14 year old inside the Bell Brands Foods warehouse at 23509 Industrial Blvd they fled with about 200 dollars in edibles including chips nuts and jerky. The trio was captured and sent to juvenile hall. Earlier two of the youths were nabbed after an attempted burglary at La Vista School while carrying a tape recorder a record player and soda bottles from a faculty storage area.
A Fremont man, Alan De La Cruz, aged unknown, was cited for possession of game cocks after police found 17 roosters in wooden rear-yard cages at 787 Warm Springs Blvd. He said birds were raised for fights and sold in nearby towns, claiming legality per attorney advice. The birds were moved to Alameda County ward.
Northern areas of the Gulf of California were shaken by a series of light quakes over several weeks. Dr. James Brune of the California Institute of Technology reported the latest temblor at 3.90 a.m. and magnitude 4.35 on the Richter scale.
Police subdued a Union City man after a disturbance at a Hayward bar. Peter Almaraz 718 Luh Street allegedly attacked an officer, damaged a patrol car door, and resisted arrest. He faces traffic warrant charges and counts of DUI, resisting arrest, battery on an officer, and malicious mischief.
A Cessna 150 crashed into Anderson Reservoir in Morgan Hill. Divers lifted the plane from 70 feet of water but found no trace of 23 year old William Waller Witherow of San Jose, a San Jose State College student. Dragging began today as authorities search for the missing pilot.
