Albuquerque couple renews romance after 54 years apart
Irene Jabnach and Orville Smith of Albuquerque wed on Thursday after a long engagement dating to 1911. She recalled serving in a Texas college pursuit while he worked as a sheep inspector. The couple reconnected after Mrs. Smith read about him in the Tribune’s Off the Beaten Path column. Brig Gen. Robin Olds near retirement and actress Shirley MacLaine’s China trip comments appear in the surrounding notes, with MacLaine contrasting Western and Chinese women's roles. In Manhattan, writer Kieran Tunney reports a burglary of George Bernard Shaw letters, a cash stash, a briefcase, and a $500 reward for recovery.
