Plane crash near Nimitz Freeway leaves pilot dead
A Hayward pilot, Jack Penrose Miller, 48, died after a light plane registered to him crashed and burned near the Nimitz Freeway and a field near the Souther Pacific railroad industrial park. Passenger Joseph Baptista, 33, suffered a head cut and was treated and released. Union City officers and a security guard pulled Miller from the burning cockpit. FAA safety board investigator John Sahaida said he had not yet spoken with Baptista or examined the engine. The Hayward Terminal had no record of takeoff time or destination.

Man Fatally Shot After Foray Over White House Fence
A 32-year-old self employed cab driver identified as Chester M Plummer Jr scaled the White House fence and advanced toward the executive mansion brandishing a steel pipe before being fatally wounded by a police officer.
