Hayward oilman promises then delivers gift for park trust

Hayward businessman Dick Holland announced a $1,680 gift to aid a neighborhood park project at El Dorado Avenue and Sonuna Street. The funds, earmarked in a trust for Residents of the El Dorado Avenue Area for a Neighborhood Park, were deposited after a brief bank run and may shift to Project Eden if the county board does not act. Holland framed the move as pressure on supervisors to respond to needs of financially needy youths.

Fremont crime trends diverge in first quarter report

FBI statistics show Fremont among cities with 100000 plus population reporting overall crime up 18 percent in early 1975 from 1974, with robberies up 28 percent and burglaries 2 percent. Despite the rise, Fremont’s 1975 first quarter felonies include only three forcible rapes and 28 burglaries, while larceny jumped to 1215 cases in 1975 from 1197 in 1974. Fremont police could not comment.

Terrorist bombs strike S F federal offices in highrise

In San Francisco two bombs hidden in cigar boxes exploded on a Monday night in the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms division offices on the Mth floor of the Tishman Building on Market Street. The Red Guerrilla Family claimed responsibility by phone, with FBI and police launching an intensive investigation after the blast.

Inflation Rises Sharply in June With Higher Gasoline and Used Car Prices

Washington reports consumer prices up 0.8 percent in June, the largest monthly gain this year, driven by fuel oil gasoline and used cars. Over three months prices rise at 7.1 percent annual rate, CPI at 160.6 indicating $100 in 1967 costing $160.60 last month.

San Leandro plaza plan clears council hearing

San Leandro plans a 12 million centrally located specially shopping center and a pedestrian plaza on West Estudillo Avenue. The city council redevelopment agency heard no opposition, and Barbara Mathews Brooks withdrew objections to her office building nearby. Action deferred to Monday to decide plaza layout and assurances for construction, with two alternate amendments: replace a portion of Estudillo with a plaza linked to the Brooks building and the theater, or keep Estudillo as a through street.
