Cairo reports heavy fighting with air and ground battles. Egyptian forces shot down two Libyan planes and destroyed 40 tanks and 30 other vehicles, capturing 12 Libyan soldiers and arresting 30 saboteurs. Egypt suffered some wounded. both sides used warplanes and artillery in a four hour border clash prior.
Five South County residents posed on the McConaghy porch on Hesperian Boulevard in Victorian attire for a fun photo session. President Carter designated seven counties in the Conemaugh Valley as disaster area. Death toll in Johnstown rose with 37 bodies recovered by midmorning. State aid planned, while residents dig out amid mud and debris as Laurel Run Dam failed earlier.
