The Navy announced it will name three Polaris submarines for Presidents John Adams and James Monroe and for patriot Nathan Hale. SACRAMENTO AP Gov Brown says he will not block the execution of Marion Linden the man on San Quentin's death row longest at nearly four years. Linden 48 was condemned for killing Los Angeles police officer Leo Wise during an arrest in 1957. Execution had been set for Aug 7 1959 but was stayed after Brown denied clemency pleas and higher courts reviewed further appeals.
A three ton fishing craft was seized Monday by Soviet forces two miles off Hokkaido, Japan. A lighthouse keeper witnessed the capture at Nosapp Cape near Kokkaido, increasing Soviet seizures in the area to nine boats.

SACRAMENTO AP More Californians were at work in Jones than in almost any month in state history, yet unemployment hit the highest percentage in four months. There were 6,177,000 at work, second only to last September's 6,208,000, while unemployment totaled 43,000, up 55,000 from May. The rate reached 8.5 percent in February during the recession, with student graduates entering the labor force cited as a contributing factor.

Results recorded by district averages. individual scores remain private. Tests chosen by districts from state issued lists. law signed by Gov Brown.
Pittsburg Missouri report details US Marshal M Willson and deputies confronting Otfo A Blume after a year-long effort to vacate land for a federal reservoir. Blume surrendered after a scuffle. his land and house were removed by bulldozing as his eight watchdogs were restrained. A government check of 3000 dollars appeared related to the property.

In San Francisco a man approached teller Marilyn Ward at Crackers Angle Bank on Monday and slid a note demanding 39,000. Ward hid behind the counter. when she emerged, the suspect had fled the scene. No injuries reported.
