State civil servants hit by freeze
SAGRAMENTO UP I The Reagan administration and agate empl groups urge the Cost of Living Council to drop its suspension of pay increases for 1000 state civil servants. The council suspended the raises as uneven with the economic stabilization program and gave 10 days to prove otherwise. The raises, averaging 14.9 percent, were aimed at addressing inequities and catchup salaries. Mattie Baker 103 Dies in Hayward After Long Life
Mattie M. Baker of Hayward died yesterday at 103 after a life spent running a boarding house near Hayward High School and assisting the San Lorenzo Community Church. Born in Winchester, Iowa, she moved to California around 1900, was active in church and Golden Sixties Club, and is survived by daughter Avis King, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. The Rev. Hugh D. Collet will lead services Monday at Pradt Mier Mortuary.
