The National Safety Council reports 495 traffic deaths during the July holiday period, with 245 Americans fatally injured in violent incidents. Drownings kill 7, heat deaths add 25, and boating and other accidents total 149. No tirework fatalities are recorded. President Ned H. Dearborn commented on the grim totals.
An airman from Fairfield-Sussex Air Base, 2nd Lt. Donald B. McIntyre, is missing after a training flight crashed near Washington Acres and Wertis0th Avenue. Witnesses describe a wingside crash into a house under construction on Royal Avenue near Bartlett, with no injuries reported on the ground. Coast Guard helicopters and Civil Aeronautics officials investigated, while witnesses gave varying accounts of the crash and parachute deployment.
A moderate earthquake lasting about one minute was recorded near Hayward about 17 miles from Berkeley. It struck at 10 44 27 p.m. Pacific time and was recorded by Assistant Seismologist Carolyn Pendery of the University of California. Secretary of State Dean Acheson said Russia and South Korea bear false claims about who started the war, likening them to Nazi Germany’s claim that Poland started World War II.
An ordinance to charge nonresidents a library use fee was read for the first time and postponed to July 11. If adopted, outsiders would pay 50 coins per month or $9 per year, collected when library cards are issued, with proof of residency or tax payment required. Police report two youths were injured when firecrackers placed under cans exploded in Hayward Castro Valley and San Lorenzo. One boy, 14, received eight stitches to the face after leaning over a firing cracker. A 31 year old man sustained leg injuries from another explosion. three stitches were taken. No other injuries were reported as authorities investigated multiple incidents.
Ten persons sustained injuries in multiple automobile incidents yesterday across Alameda and surrounding area. Among the injured were Destine Gonzales, 42, who remained in serious condition at Highland Hospital after a Valle Vista crash. others included a woman ejected from a vehicle near North Hesperian Street, a pedestrian struck on Milpitas Road, and a child who fell from a car door in Hayward.
Castro Valley police report theft of more than 400 dollars in auto parts and tools from a garage on Paradise Lane. The entry appeared non destructive with no broken window as owner Ronald Shiman, 20, and Keith Wills, 23, noted club members previously using the site to work on cars while several members recently left the group.
Secretary of State announces Bonnie B. Wamsley received an original notary public commission. Wamsley resides at 308 West Avenue 150 in San-Lay Renan. The appointment confirms authority to administer oaths and certify documents as a public notary.

A man drowned in Loon Lake after the boat swamped 12 feet from shore. Five people were in the boat when it capsized east of George Town. one boater reached for him but he sank and died despite revival attempts. The death was reported near Placerville with relatives and a coroner present. Funeral plans were set for Placerville.
In a National League matchup Pittsburgh failed to score in several innings as Chicago edged ahead. Pitchers Queen, Turner, Mueller and Lade combined on the mound with key defensive plays shaping the result.
On the Fourth of July in Bevolo Melton County a boy named Tony Vigil died after spending over two hours inside a refrigerator near his home. Relatives and responders from Centerville and Ashland rushed to aid. Tony wore only shorts when found and resuscitation efforts began immediately. His mother Cloyinds Comforted by relatives, the vigil family faced a long night as officials declared the death at 10 26 with neighbors lingering.
Sacramento announces Gov Warren will form three advisory committees on civilian defense including a Radiological Sanity Advisory committee and an Emergency Medical Advisory committee to work with the state disaster council. The disaster council meets Friday to discuss expanding civilian programs amid the Korean War. The emergency medical panel includes Health section head Dr Richard M Brundage and Earl Rut Miller, with military liaisons from Army Navy and Air Force. Details of the other two panels to be announced.
The King Home Owners Association holds its first regular meeting since officer elections tomorrow at 8 p.m. at Yennyson school. Secretary Cameron Mallory notes that the first Thursday of each month is set as a regular meeting. speaker will discuss pardoning. Officers are Bill Dell president Stan Fernwood vice president Mal Jory secretary Chapland treasurer.
Valley Forge, Pa June 30. Magazine reporters from Baltimore and Ohio magazine rode the Scout train to the jamboree and photographed Troop 12 and the Hawaii group. The issue promises to reach over 60 000 readers with stories and pictures and will mail copies to each boy on board.

Foreign observers expect the Soviet Union to curb escalation while Russia accuses Washington of edging toward open war in a statement attributed to Deputy Foreign Minister Andred Grotwyko.
