Lockheed hearing round to decide loan guarantees
Senate Banking Committee will hold additional hearings next week on a Nixon plan to provide Lockheed Aircraft a 2 80 million government loan guarantee for the L 1011 jet. The bill would let the Fed and treasury and commerce secretaries decide winners for guaranteed loans while Senator Stamm may push to bar guarantees to poorly managed firms. Lockheed says the guarantee is needed to avert financial trouble from Rolls Royce's collapse and ensure engine supply.
