Cloudy conditions with light rain possible across the state today into tomorrow. San Francisco Bay Area shows morning clouds with afternoon clearing and high around 30s to 50s. varying winds. Sierra regions expect snow flurries and little temperature change. Sacramento, San Joaquin, Salinas, Monterey Bay, Santa Clara and Hollister areas report clouds and fog with occasional sun, highs mainly 50s to 60s, gentle to light winds.

Geneva report says U S officials dismissed a Soviet call for one for one destruction of bombers as unacceptable and impractical. Secretary of State Dean Rusk had suggested eliminating obsolete bombers to prevent them from reaching non nuclear nations during Geneva talks. The Tsarokin delegation indicated Russia would not push full bomber destruction.
Alameda County Sheriff's officers warn residents to watch for burglars door to door in neighborhoods. Detectives report thieves knock then try rear entries if no one answers, asking for nonexistent residents. Burglaries have surged in South County over the past weeks, targeting money and televisions.
In San Francisco handshake events drew crowds as Nelson Rockefeller announced his California drive to unite Republicans. He targeted Sen. Barry Goldwater and the political extremes while seeking support from voters during a three day tour. The San Francisco kickoff drew thousands at Market Street while a Marin County reception drew about 4,000 attendees.
In San Rafael Tuesday night a crowd of 5000 to 7000 greeted Gov Nelson Rockefeller of New York at a Marin County reception co hosted by State Sen Join F McCarthy and Assemblyman William Bagley. The turnout was described as the biggest in Marin political history. Rockefeller left for San Francisco after shaking hands amid a cold foggy night.
A 400-person conference of industry science and education leaders in Sacramento urged immediate statewide planning to meet 1980s needs. They warned of drastic environmental and social changes without action and proposed a continuing extragovernmental Congress to coordinate efforts. The organizational meeting should occur by January 1956.
Mariposa County including Yosemite National Park will impose a four percent room tax starting July 1. The county expects about $90,000 in revenue from Yosemite hotels operated by the Yosemite Park and Curry Co.
Los Angeles prosecutors defeated a motion for mistrial in a Chicago linked extortion trial. The defendant and witnesses face complex charges tied to a bombing at Barbe’s estate and an alleged plan to extort $40,000 annually.
State Treasurer Bert Betts announced the first phase of the California Water Project bond sale on February 18. The initial issue totals $100 million of the $1.75 billion program, with each bond valued at $5,001, higher than the standard $1,000 state bonds.
