Emeryville trustees to appeal Steve Dain ruling
Emeryville board votes 4 to 1 to appeal a state hearing officer ruling reinstating transsexual teacher Steve Dain. Judge Charles Bobby found the district improperly fired Dain and dismissed two charges. Superintendent Stommel says the district will seek overturn in Alameda County Superior Court. Dain’s attorney expects possible new charges or appeals and seeks about $9,000 back pay. Doris Richards taught physical education at Emery High. Dain began serving a 10 year tenure before taking leave for gender transition.
