Two Robbers Shot In Kidnap Attempt

PORT CHICAGO AP Two of three armed robbers were shot today after abducting two men as hostages and failing to escape in a heavy gun battle with deputies and highway patrol. The two wounded gunmen were treated and the hostages freed about two miles from the scene. Names and charges against Lawson Lea Ward and the amounts stolen were reported, with details of the confrontation and subsequent arrests.

Trash Firm Fill Plan Whittled by City Commission

The Turk Island Rubbish Disposal Co plans to fill shoreline land near Hayward Airport. Three Arrested In Tax Scandal In San Diego Case

AP reports three men charged after a San Diego County Assessor office grand jury inquiry. John Desmond and Gordon Van Cleve, tax consultant partners, were arrested in Springfield New Jersey and released on 5000 dollars bail. Homer Ghehler of Portland posted 5000 dollars bail and must appear for arraignment February 8.

Johnson warns tax hike may follow wage price restraint

LBJ urged Congress to back ground tax studies to act quickly if needed, placing the onus on labor and management. Cal State Cager Dies in Attack After Resuscitation Efforts

Cal State football player Dunn died after an attack on campus. Coach Glen Albaugh and two San Francisco State personnel gave 35 minutes of emergency resuscitation before an ambulance and Dr. Visalli arrived. He is survived by wife Juanita and parents Lizzie Mae in Monterey and a father stationed in Germany. Funeral arrangements pending.
