Proponents of the Greater San Lorenzo Area incorporation movement agreed to an aggressive campaign but declined official support for the Bay City plan. At Cherryland school the group adopted objectives and discussed incorporation with Cherryland residents. County Blocks Subdivisions Over Flood Hazard Fears

Alameda County Planning commission rejected two tentative maps for Hayward subdivisions Tract 1478 and Tract 1540 citing flood risks to adjacent land and inadequate runoff drainage. The action followed concerns about water dispersal south of the tracts and potential flooding near Mt Eden Alvarado road and Alameda creek. Approval was given to tentative maps for two Irvington area developments totaling 479 lots.

Arraignment Set for Jan 26 in Grocery Store Robbery

Louis D. McDonald, 22, of San Leandro, faces arraignment on a Saturday armed robbery at the Tennyson grocery on Folsom Avenue where clerk Arthur Dodge, 39, Hayward, says he stole 176 after a wall shot. McDonald was arrested after a car crash at Halcyon Drive and Hesperian Boulevard.

Committee Denies Crown's Petition For Vote Recount

In Sacramento California an Assembly Elections committee denied Democrat Robert W. Crown’s bid for a recount in the 13th District Alameda County contest against Assemblyman Randal Dickey by 54 votes. The 10 member panel led by Charles J. Conrad rejected the petition by voice vote after two hours of testimony. Crown cited irregularities including a ballot box moved to a precinct inspector’s home in Sant Leandro and argued human error could alter the outcome. Several lawmakers noted conflicting reports on Precinct 12 and suggested the precinct be thrown out or the entire election recounted.

Nationalists Claim Troops Resisting Reds

Taipei dispatch reports Chinese Nationalist high command said defenders of Yichangshan isle eight miles north of the invasion routes to Formosa were holding after 56 hours of combined assaults by invading Communist marines, soldiers, planes and warships.
