San Leandro Police Chief Kenneth E. Swanson 50 died at Kaiser Hospital Hayward after a six month illness linked to a large stomach tumor. Swanson served 25 years with the department becoming chief Oct 1 1973. Survived by wife Lucille and daughters Janine Denise. son Keith killed in Vietnam. Memorial plans pending. Acting chief Capt Donald Becker to continue until new chief named.
