Captain R C Wilkinson retires from the California Highway Patrol effective January 1 after a 1927 start in San Diego. He served at Riverside, on the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge patrol, and led the Alameda County squad as captain from 1947. He will join C C Thompson Co as an investigator and retirements honors include a 1935 CHP president pin and a recent Safety council article. Sgt Charles Sloat leads the Alameda county squad temporarily.

Hayward Man Dies From Head Wound
William A. Zimmer, 32, of 719 Folsom avenue, Hayward, died from rifle wounds after reportedly shooting himself in the head. He was found slumped over a .22 rifle by his wife, Elise, 33, at 12:15 pm. A note said he could no longer be a burden and asked her to go on without him, as investigators pursued coroner’s inquiry.

Heavy Rain Seen Tonight Hits California Coast
