Prominent Pleasanton man dies at 79
John A. Marshall retired architect who built the Villa del Sole above Pleasanton died last night of an apparent heart attack at 79. He and wife Edith were friends of the Hearst family and ran the Old Hearst Ranch as a dude ranch for 13 years before selling in 1952. The Marshalls hosted visitors including Norma Talmadge and the Cannon family. They built the Villa del Sale in the late 1950s, seven years in the making, with Moorish and Mediterranean influences and ornate carved doors. He is survived by his wife. funeral services are pending.
