Court of Honor Held at Sunset

A Hayward Scouts court of honor was held at Sunset Tuesday, preceded by a brief meeting of the Sunset Dads club, sponsors of Hayward Acres Cub Pack 1. Second class badges awarded to Bill Burge, Roger Raver, Johnny T Bond, and Dick Haskell. Lew Saylor distributed first class badges to Larey Van Wegen, LeRoy Dernedde, Max Burmeller, Ronald and Donald Buleman. Two perfect attendance pins, presented by Assistant Scoutmaster George Oliver, went to Saint Chisom and Leroy Derneddy. Frank Martella presented gifts to Scoutmaster Willity Smith and Oliver in appreciation of their service.

The Hayward School District prepares an at home education program titled Operation Education. The cast includes Dorothy Wol, Richard Coughlin, Mickey Wright, Arione Writ, and others. Rites Set for Sunday for Roy W Schoonover

Funeral rites for Roy Webb Schoonover 67, retired horse trainer, will be held Sunday in Hayward. A Missouri native, he died Wednesday in San Leandro. He was father to Steward H Schoonover and Mrs Hazel Andrews of Santa Cruz and Mrs Margaret Doty of Woodland. Surviving sister is Mrs Rita Sharp of Santa Cruz and three grandchildren. Services at 2 pm at Sorensen Brothers chapel 1140 B Street. Burial in Lone Tree Cemetery.

Rioting 1500 Communist Internees At Kojo Island Camp

In a Communist led riot at a prisoner compound on Kojo island off Japan's south coast, an American soldier and 69 Korean civilians were killed and 23 Americans and 142 Koreans wounded. About 1500 internees attacked U S security forces with improvised weapons. the wider inmate population totaled around 3500, with no spread to other compounds. The army said the situation was quiet and under control.
