Youth Admits Burglaries In Hayward Area
A 17 year old Russell City youth on parole from Pinegrove youth authority confessed to more than twenty burglaries and attempts in Hayward area. He implicated four juveniles in the crimes and led deputies to a burglary at Dan Hassell’s home on Madison Street where two cigarette lighters were stolen. A footprint at the scene aided the arrest and police planned further questioning.

Witnesses described him as about 5 feet 4 inches tall, 23 years old, 150 pounds, with a distinctive switchy walk. Authorities, including Alameda County deputies, investigated after the alarm was triggered near 7:30 pm.

Newark Man Held on Rape Accusation
A Newark man, M. C. Lewallen, 22, was jailed in Hayward for investigation of rape after a Irvington woman accused him of assault following a drive home from a Newark bar.
