Plane Crashes in Bay Hurts 13 Crew Safe
SAN FRANCISCO Thirteen air force crewmen aboard a four engine RC 121 crashed while attempting a landing at Hamilton Field in fog and darkness. All were rescued from two feet of water in San Pablo Bay with only minor injuries and hospital checks. The massive radar plane, on a routine mission from McClellan, struck the bay belly first five miles east of the runway. The crash, delayed rescue by nearly an hour, left the aircraft lying in five feet of water before assistance arrived.
