London AP bulletin reports Aneurin Bevan 62 year old deputy leader of the Labour party had a comfortable night following an abdominal operation. The hospital bulletin says he is rest satisfactory as can be expected after surgery.
Washington AP Aiding via tighter records, Internal Revenue Commissioner Dana Latham urged thorough reporting of entertainment and business expenses claimed by corporations partnerships and small businesses. Starting January 4 detailed records will be required for top paid officers and key personnel with certain thresholds applying to employers and proprietors.
Sacramento reports Disaster Director Harold Robinson urged a deliberate study of California civil defense climate by the 1950 Legislature. He asked for a 1960-61 budget of 1,093,541, noting federal matching funds and prior cuts, while Assemblyman Unruh pushed to scrutinize the Disaster Office as a potential boondoggle. The office operates in three regions with seven divisions and has handled substantial federal aid and surplus property in recent years.
UPI reports Hurricane winds labeled Lantaslie Jorve struck Etate Island Mon Vaay night, flattening about 80 percent of crops. No casualties reported yet. French frigate Compierene sails to evacuate 1200 women and children left without shelter.

In New York City six million subway and bus riders faced disruption as negotiators narrowed gaps. The Transit Authority offered a 2-year contract of nine and a half cents per seat, totaling about 12.5 million dollars, while TWU president Michael J. Quill criticized the plan as operation eyedropper and urged a late Tuesday night meeting before Thursday.
In Santa Clara a motel owner's wife says two midnight visitors threatened them at the Western Motel. Glen Paul Syringey, 21, was shot and killed. Jerry Lee Fewell, 19, fled but turned himself in. A struggle occurred and one assailant allegedly threatened Mrs. Gruter. she fired a .38 pistol.

A fast moving passenger train struck a car in Roscoe South Dakota killing four people. Kilmer Heiser twenty drove the car and four passengers Edwin Kirschenmann thirty Tommy Sweetland twelve and Wilbert Buck one died. Beck survived a previous highway crash on New Year’s Day 1958 near Eureka. Sweetland was Heiser’s stepson.
