Appeal to VA to visit forgotten mental patients
A VA survey says one third of 52000 mental patients in VA hospitals have had no visitor in a year or more. It urges brief visits by friends or relatives to help, citing a WWII veteran with dementia who has had just one visitor in five years yet shows improvement. The report notes distress over lack of family contact and asks for action to reconnect veterans with support.
