Holiday bound GIs die in Monongahela airliner crash
Ten men nine soldiers and a pilot died when a charter DC-3 crash landed on the Monongahela river near McKeesport. Fourteen others survived after some swam to shore or were rescued by motorists and residents. Pilot Harold A. Joei of Seattle guided the craft to a hazardous river landing as darkness and ice hampered rescue efforts.

SACRAMENTO. A three man board of consultants to advise on San Francisco Bay Southern Crossing problems has been selected by the State Toll Bridge Authority. Ralph Smiley of New York, Or J Porter of Newark New Jersey, and Charles E Andrew of Tacoma Washington were chosen to aid the State Department of Public Works in solving engineering questions. Norman C Rabb, head of the State Division of San Francisco Bay Toll Crossings, recommended the trio and submitted a progress report on the project. A complete report on financial and engineering feasibility is expected within a year.

Trustees Ban Students From Using Church Buses
Decoto school trustees vote unanimously to require pupils attending weekly religious instruction to walk until church buses are approved by the highway patrol. Three district schools had used church buses for the classes. Superintendent Dr Harold Schoenfeld said patrol reports flagged buses as unsafe for child transportation. Emanuel P Razeto, 43, an Oakland attorney, was appointed by Gov. Goodwin J. Knight to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, to represent the fifth district succeeding Clifford Wixon who resigned. Picket’s Citation Hearing Set for January Sixth
A citation hearing involving Herman A. Christensen of Castro Valley and a picket representative from Office Employes Union Local 29 was moved to January 6 by the Alameda County Deputy District Attorney in Hayward. Christensen signed a citizen’s arrest form Monday after he was charged by the picket. Samuel J. Stewart, a 204 San Francisco seaman, allegedly kicked his car and abused the language while attempting to enter Eden hospital grounds through the picket line. The hearing was originally scheduled for December 29.
