Generals say Ike overstated ammo shortage in Korea

Maj Gen William Reeder said Eisenhower likely referred to ammunition when he spoke of serious supply problems in Korea noting that artillery ammo is adequate overall. Airplane Lands Safely at MOVFETT FIELD after engine fire

A giant Naval transport plane with 154 aboard caught fire over Fresno while en route from San Diego to a terminal station. Lt. John R. Ander from Quine Calif used anti fire gear to control the blaze as the Concordation landed on three engines, a faulty fuel line blamed for the incident.

Tragedy as 132 aboard C-124 Globemaster crash

A Douglas C-124 Globemaster carrying 132 personnel including many troops on Christmas furlough crashed on takeoff from Larson AFB. Air Force officials estimate about 102 died with many injuries. The disaster, tied to Operation Sleighride, occurred after 6:30 a.m. PST in the Columbia Basin desert near Moses Lake. Rescue efforts mobilized all available ambulances and medical crews while a board of officers launched an investigation.

Police report two car burglaries in Ashland and San Lorenzo. At Gordon's Drive In, a parked car was entered and Christmas gifts worth 74 dollars taken. the thief unlocked the rear door while the occupants dined. Early today at Club Continental two coats and assorted gifts valued 120 dollars were taken, a key chain with car and home keys left in a packet being noted.

Oakland PG E substation shorted at 4 p m causing 42000 volt line burns to three employees William J Smith 48 of San Lorenzo suffered hand and arm burns while George Worland 46 and Robert Hoffhing 48 both of Oakland were less seriously injured. Air Force searches for missing jet fighter near Anchorage

Air Force planned to search a 1000 mile area for an F-94515 jet with two men aboard. The plane from the 64th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron was last heard about 135 miles southwest of Anchorage yesterday. A radio message indicated cockpit trouble but radar observer might have bailed out as the plane was said to be at high altitude. Five planes from the 10 Air Rescue Squadron returned from a search with reported success. The jet was based at Imendorf Air.
