Paint Plant Explosion Destroys Inter-Coastal Plant
A blast and rapid fire at Inter-Coastal Paint Corporation in San Leandro destroyed the two story main building and razed the facility. Fire officials said seven alarm response and multiple departments fought the blaze from 1:18 am to 4:00 am. No serious injuries reported though nearby homes were damaged. The plant manufactured automobile parts and sat on 2411 Washington Avenue. Deputy Sheriff and residents described shattered windows and airborne debris as the explosion rocked the area.

A Gastro Valley woman, 53, Mrs Bula May Milstrom, and her 8 year old nephew Robert Thompson were seriously injured when their car overturned on a curve on Highway Three miles south of San Luis Obispo. No other car involved. They were taken to French hospital in San Obispo. Capt Howard Alborn of the California Highway Patrol reported the crash around 10 am yesterday. Authorities learned the boy had transferred from Millbrae to Baywood area after his parents separation. The grandmother Ida Moore in San Francisco was notified. The accident prompted searches for relatives and school records in the area.

Attacker Charged With Attempted Assault Near Sunset Boulevard
