Pay Hike Urged For Professors
LOS ANGELES AP The California Coordinating Council recommends a 10 percent pay raise for college professors as the 1965 legislature votes to increase at least 20 million for UC and state college faculties. Dumke warns the boost may still not be enough, urging consideration of bonuses to attract and retain faculty, especially at state colleges focused on undergraduate teaching. UC President Kerr says the raise keeps the university competitive. A AAUP survey places UC salaries well below peers. CSC average is lower than comparable schools. The council also backs studying tuition-free school fees and appoints John R. Richards as staff director and William Spaulding as interim director until July next year.
