Pleasanton to Have Woman Priest
The Rev. Susan Bergmans of St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Pleasanton is set to become California's first female Episcopal priest as Epiphany Five on January five. The ordination will be celebrated by Rt. Kilmer Myers of the Diocese of California with the church service open to the public. The General Convention approved changing rules to allow women deacons to be ordained priests starting January first. Five women deacons in the Diocese of California are fully approved for priesthood, with the other four to be ordained in Oakland Alameda San Francisco and San Raphael.
