California Sues for Taxes on Marilyn Monroe Film Profits
California seeks 64 634 in state income taxes from Marilyn Monroe estate for profits from Some Like It Hot and The Misfits earned after her 1962 death. The Franchise Tax Board sent a bill appealed to the Board of Equalization, which was to rule in about nine days. California claims residual profits from the California filmed Some Like It Hot and ten percent of The Misfits. The New York estate already paid New York taxes on those percentages. California argues income from the films is taxable where income was generated despite Monroe being a New York resident.

Bankscharged higher loan costs by big California banks
A San Francisco Consumer Action study claims Wells Fargo Bank Bank of America and United California Bank levy 0 to 100 percent higher rates on similar loans than smaller banks. The guide Break the Banks says credit card and overdraft loans cost 18 percent or more, with higher minimum balances for free checking and costs tied to bank processing. Bank officials dispute the findings arguing data is dated and that card loans enable otherwise unaffordable credit.
