Fishing Fool’s Tale of Big Bay Bass Runs in 1947

In late September 1947 a trio of men visiting my home claimed to be listeners of my Friday radio show and invited me to view 15 large bass caught near Point Pinoy off Point Pinoy. A boat trip with nine fishermen yielded 45 fish in 45 minutes. Audrey Payne and Dick Payne, plus Earl Hastings, formed the Fishing Fools R&G Club and invited new members. The tale promises another run of large bass with boats from China Camp to Rodeo, citing bass weights from 12 to 29 pounds and a noted striper run in nearby waters.
