Tragic Death of San Leandro Marine in North Carolina Shooting
Cpl. Berry Harper Brown 19, of San Leandro, died of a gunshot wound suffered during an overnight pass with Marines from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was a 1964 Arroyo High School graduate, drafted Jan 1964, and had lived in San Leandro 17 years. Funeral services set in Hayward as parents return from the East Coast.

Udall to Speak at Sunol Valley Filtration Plant Dedication
Secretary of the Interior Stewart L Udall will keynote the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission dedication of the Sunol Valley Filtration Plant on September 14. Governor Edmund G Brown and Mayor John F Shelley will participate. The plant, five miles south of Sunol, will filter water from Calaveras and San Antonio reservoirs and Sunol wells, handling 40 million gallons a day to improve turbidity and color issues.
