Early this morning a Peerless bus and a car collided head on near Irvington. The car was demolished and two men escaped with minor injuries while the bus driver and two passengers were unhurt. In a separate incident on Highway By near Warm Springs in Fremont two men were injured, one seriously, when their car flipped over and struck trees and signs before stopping upside down. Richard Reeves 26 of San Jose is in serious condition at Highland Hospital with head and internal injuries. James L. Ward 36 of San Jose suffered severe head lacerations and an armp injury. A rear end collision injured no one. In the bus crash Mirslo Hi geenia 25 of Center Ville and passenger David Ruiz 23 of Decoto were treated at Fairmont Hospital and released. Witnesses reported Hi genially swerved into the bus’s path. Bus driver Claude Hutchinson 33 of San Jose and his two passengers escaped injury.
Pleasanton council again considers William Ackerman's controversial plan to build a house on a property with no frontage on a public street off Kottinger Road. City Administrator Masenheimer and Councilman Gerton oppose the permit while Mayor Caira says he must vote for it, citing an earlier approval.
Linda Thibodeau, 14, missing since Tuesday, hitchhiked to cities including San Francisco and Los Angeles before being found in Castro Valley. Her tuberculosis patient mother Mary Brady, at Livermore sanitarium, had secured emergency leaves to aid in the search. Hayward police will investigate the girl’s story.

Niles Stoddard, 28, of Niles, is missing after balloon ascent near Willows in Trinity County. The balloon reportedly reached about 21 miles altitude, surpassing the prior record of 98,040 feet. Maj. David G. Simons, aboard a capsule, prepares for a 32 hour ascent to conduct space travel adaptability tests.

Melvin Bakkerud a 21 year old admitted sadist kidnapper said too much noise drove him to strike a fellow inmate in the San Francisco County Jail Tail. The victim Herman Ivory 29 awaiting trial for a haldup serious case was playing Dominoes when Bakkerud through bars lashed him twice with a spoon honed makeshift knife.
President Eisenhower counterattacked to save foreign aid from crippling cuts. He held an unannounced breakfast with House Speaker Sam Rayburn and urged aid restoration. A four-man administration task force urged Senate Appropriations to restore $809 million cut by the House. Dulles led witnesses. Radford warned of military consequences.
Hayward merchants voted this morning to keep open late twice weekly starting next Monday. Stores will stay open until 9 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, expanding from Fridays only as current practice.
