Pension Plan Debate Prompts Ballot Arguments
In Sacramento opposing sides argued for and against repeal of pension proposition No 4 in the official pamphlet prepared by Secretary of State Frank M. Jordan. Proponents labeled repealing as a needed measure against a pension crowd, while opponents called it a false move. Arguments covered restoring pension funding to a sound basis, ending a political clique, shifting taxes onto homeowners and farmers, and safeguarding state financial stability. The pamphlet also listed positions on a proposed 25 million school bond, daylight saving time, and legislator pay increases.
