An alliance of private citizens and landowners formed last night to oppose Alameda county zoning for Foothill Boulevard. Led by Willis B. Parker, the group plans weekly meetings at 16738 Foothill Boulevard and drafted a petition to block residential zoning within 500 feet of Foothill from 159th to Ridge Road. The petition argues multiple dwellings and light industry dominate the area and warns single family zoning could harm values and cause deterioration.
The Senate approved a bill making the Communist party illegal with heavy penalties for active members in a maneuver that could shape White House plans for anti subversive legislation. If the administration opposes, the measure may die in the House pigeonhole.
