Big Store Site Expands With Four More Acres
Mrs Minnie Rabinovich announced the Heyer estate sale adjoining the Swift property to enlarge the corner site at Foothill Boulevard and Castro Street for a major retail development. The parcel adds 126 feet on Castro Street and extends toward Hayward's Memorial Park, with parking space to be provided. The sale was handled by Leonard Leon of Coldwell Banker Oakland. no price was released. A fleet of construction vehicles has excavated since mid May to clear a million cubic yards of dirt for building preparations. Rabinovich praised Hayward city officials and state highway officials for cooperation in the project. The developer plans include an 18 acre area with a major store, though names have not yet been disclosed.

Oakland police arrested Govan Smalls a 26 year old middleweight boxer after he allegedly attempted to hold up an Oakland liquor store at 1106 Market Street.
