Court rules oil import tariff program unconstitutional
A U S appeals court voided the Ford administration plan to raise license fees on oil imports, saying the President and Federal Energy Administration lacked authority for fees of that size. Eight states governors and 10 utilities sued over the Jan 23 1975 order. Plaintiffs seek refunds and a faster court ruling, possibly sending the case to the Supreme Court.

Cops chase hit-and-run suspect through Hayward area
Police tracked a brown van through Hayward near Weekes Park after six parked vehicles were struck. Johnny Wasson, 22, of Livermore, was arrested on six counts of hit-and-run driving along with burglary assault and drug charges.
