Gun control bill killed in Senate amid test votes
The Senate rejected several gun control measures after President Kennedy era proposals. Senator Bayh led the bill to outlaw sale of snub-nosed handguns and oppose broader registration. Hart and Kennedy offered substitutes for broader firearm bans and universal registration, which failed. Senator Stevenson floated a handgun owner license plan, but prospects were slim. The votes followed heightened post assassination calls for federal controls.

Final test tonight for no fault bill
Washington Republicans sought to block Senate consideration of no fault insurance arguing it would deprive crash victims of court access. Supporters contend it ensures quick damages up to 26000 for injury 45000 for rehabilitation and 24000 for last wages with lawsuits only if totals exceed those limits. A key vote was set on sending the bill to the Judiciary Committee to study, potentially delaying action this year.
