Hayward luncheon honored State Controller Alan Cranston lauding Brown administration fiscal gains. Cranston noted wiping out the general fund debt, a 15.8 million year end surplus, and savings from insurance premium tax timing plus a 55 million shift of payments. He praised the tax program as fair and pointed to progress on the water project deadlock.
The Rev and Mrs Paul B Rhodes of Haywant's First Presbyterian Church attend the funeral of Mrs Rhodes' mother in Riverside. Mrs James F Napp died in her sleep in Southern California. The Napps were missionaries to India for 40 years before retirement and visit their daughter and family in Slaywad. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday morning in Riverside.
Mirttia Jimenez Svearold daughter of Hayward Fire Matt narrowly escaped serious injury yesterday afternoon when knocked from her bicycle in the Hayward Mighlamis area. A station wagon struck the cyclist and missed her, leaving Victoria unharmed but briefly shaken.
Timothy Londagin 35 son of Mr and Mrs Maxon L Dowlagin of 547 Boxwood St died Thursday of heart disease. Service tomorrow at Washington Community Presbyterian Clinch 890 Fargo Ave at 1 pm. Private funeral was held yesterday at Sorensen Tins. Burial Mt View Cemetery Oakland. Survivors include parents a brother Robert two sisters Suzanne and Carel and grandparents Clyde Londagin Richmond and L C Alt Sacramento.
George T Standish 75 retired hotel clerk died Thursday in Oakland hospital. Services Monday at Castro Valley Mortuary 20858 Lake Chabot Rd with burial in Lone Tree cemetery Hayward. Survivors include wife Dinah daughter Belly Bering Hayward son Wayne A Standish Castro Valley brother Milton Standish Chicago sister Ethel French Minneapolis. Native of North Dakota, resident here eight years, member Castro Valley Faith Lutheran Church.
Rose Richardson, 79, former Unity church minister, died yesterday morning at Fairmont Hospital after long illness. She lived at 2060 Darius Way San Leandro was widow of Frank R. Richardson and mother of Frank A. Richardson Oakland Georgia Richardson San Leandro and Mrs Rose Miguel of San Leandro. Five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive. Native of Calcutta, she lived in California 51 years and San Ananda 15 years. Funeral Monday at 10 a.m. Santos-Robinson chapel 160 Estudilah Ave conducted by Rev Barizra Hale-Lyan of San Leandro Unity Church.

A report outlines moving garbage collection to private contract. Oakland Scavenger Co. meets with Leandro officials to explore privatization, with council set to discuss April 17. San Leandro businessman Leonard Baskin 39 faced two misdemeanor solicitation charges stemming from acting as a runner for San Leandro attorneys Willism Spruance and Charles Simonian. Two Caval Valley graduates received diplomas from Oakland Merritt Hospital School of Nursing in a capping ceremony at First Christian Church. Javine Dyche, 24, daughter of Fred and Dyche, completed Hayward Union High in 1969 and studied at Modesto and Oakland Junior Colleges before entering nursing in 1986. she applied for a job at Eden Hospital. Carol Ann Cruze, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Cruze, graduated from HUHS in June 1956 and entered Merritt training the following year, accepting a job at San Jose Hospital beginning next month.
A two-vehicle collision at Mission and Fremont Birds sent the driver William Kennedy of Glendora and his mother Mrs. Helen Kennedy to Washington Township Hospital with injuries. William Kennedy suffered a fractured left arm and his mother had cuts and bruises. John A. Johnson of Garfield Sailnas faced cited for running a red light. Johnson was not injured.
Watsonville dispatch reports Servillane Vintoero killed Friday when his car crossed the centerline of Highway One and collided with an oncoming truck. Frank Taare of Castroville, driver of the truck, suffered no injuries.
San Leandro City Council meets at 7 p.m. Monday for routine items including a Resolution of Intent to amend the zoning ordinance. The change would require a use permit for industries locating in industrial zones adjacent to homes. Also on the agenda is a revised capital improvements list for parks and playgrounds and proposed staffing and program increases for the parks and recreation department.

SAN Y FRANCISCO UPD reports California wineries will begin inspecting grapes starting September 1 to ensure compliance with Food and Drug Administration standards. The announcement came Friday from the Wine Institute. The institute’s board of directors will hold its autumn meeting in Santa Rosa.
Alameda County Planning Commission meets Monday at 1 30 p m to review Alexander Kulsgel's application to rezone from agricultural to multiple residential on two lots along the northwest side of 6th Avenue east of Mission Boulevard in San Lorenzo. The proposal includes a church encroachment of 15 feet into the 82 foot building line and relates to Lewelling Boulevard San Lorenzo with a church at Asian San Lorenzo Baptist Church. The meeting is at Alameda County Office Building 224 Winton Avenue room 0.
