Fire damages Hayward lumber yard and auto shop
Arson investigators began probing a blaze that destroyed the Diamentine lumber yard at 1343 West Jackson Street and damaged the Perry and Key Auto and Body Shop at 1175 West Jackson. Four departments fought the fire, with losses estimated around 22 500 dollars. Authority officials said arson is a possibility and would be investigated as a priority.

A fire in the Ameri cover coal mine near Marcienelle Belgium trapped an estimated 269 men 30K feet below ground. Eight hours after the alarm rescuers found four trapped men four near the shaft dead and one alive. Spray Plane Crash Kills Two Local Pilots Near Florida Field
A hayward co pilot Rae Forrest Howry and San Leandro pilot Charles W Day died when their SkySpray marketing C 82 flying boxcar crashed near Boca Raton Florida while spraying a 200000 acre area. Soldier Dies In Car Wrapped Around Pole
A 22 year old Army private died in a one car crash this morning in Southern Alameda County as the vehicle wrapped around a Castro Valley boulevard telephone pole. Driver Ruth Brand 27 was injured and seven months pregnant in serious condition at Eden hospital Castro Valley. Police said a pursuit ended when Brand's car struck a concrete divider and dragged the frame around the pole. Hospital reports indicated Brand was in fair condition with no sign of danger to the unborn child. Another crash on Highway 50 near Livermore sent Ernest C Husing 46 and his five year old son to Eden hospital with fractures after their car hit a semi truck trailer. Continued on Page
