New Variety Of Raphiolepis Available
The raphiolepis coates crimson, a color variant of raphiolepis indica, is now offered in California nurseries. Known as alizarin crimson, it marks the first use of crimson to describe flower color in the genus. Patented by Leonard Coates Nurseries of Morgan Hill, this cultivar emerged from 1934 seeds, with confirmation in 1951 by a San Jose State College art faculty member. It is smaller, more compact, and likely slower growing than RR indica varieties.
