Park plan shocks supervisors near Hayward park area
The Mass Bay Regional Parks District announced plans to acquire about four undeveloped acres southeast of Hayward’s Ala Mein County Garin Regional Park, prompting delays on Jack Shane’s 26 acre variance request. The district aims to buy Shane’s property at 1212 Garin Avenue as part of a broader effort to secure land between the park and Meyers family Dry Creek Ranch. The board halted Shane’s variance discussion but retained jurisdiction, with a November 1 calendar placeholder and planning recommendations pending on future unincorporated Ridge properties. The commission urges annexation before development to ensure utilities and services. The board rezoned a 0.4 acre residential lot at 1786 Oriole Ave for seven apartments, while denying Howard Chu’s rezoning of 407-Id West A St. to allow a bank of rental storage units.
