Welfare aid share set for Alameda County funds

Welfare Director Robert B. Garrison announced Alameda County will receive 2,426,160 as the state share of administering Aid to Families and Dependent Children and adult aid programs. The statewide legislature appropriated 519,499,600 for this purpose, with Los Angeles County getting 20,923,361. Alameda’s Jack McKay of the Human Resources Agency says the Welfare Reform Act shifts half of the county's admin costs to the state, a trade-off he calls wasteful as county grants to the totally disabled rise only modestly while other costs fall on the county.
