A burly Communist guard at the Yarié Youth Festival struck American girl Anita Tanner outside a festival hall while distributing teafiets, hitting her across the face as two other guards watched. the incident left her slightly swollen.
New York Governor Nelson A Rockefeller said he and his wife are not opposed to a marriage between their son and Anne Marie Rasmusson. He called it their decision and life, praising young people's ability to choose. Anne-Marie, once a Rockefeller household maid, has kept quiet about marriage as the couple flew to San Juan for a governors conference.
A Beechcraft Bonanza crashed on landing at Oakland Airport, demolishing the aircraft. Pilot Foster Bryce, 37, Sacramento, suffered only a cut near the eye. The craft struck a dike, flipped, and landed on its nose and right wing.

Robin Hans a 3 year old Hayward girl who nearly died after swallowing castor beans Thursday is reported much improved. Eden Hospital says she had a good night and is recovering. Her parents Mr and Mrs Richard Hans live on Evelyn Lane in Hayward. Police note at least 50 anxious parents have called urging removal of castor bean plants from neighborhoods. Authorities are urging private action with neighbors.

Western allies have approved a possible invitation for Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev to visit the United States. Britain France and West Germany were informed that President Eisenhower weighs such a invitation possibly before the end of his Vice President Nixon’s trip or soon after. Reports also confirm rumors of Eisenhower’s own planned visit to Russia later, perhaps in November or December, ahead of an East-West summit.
Premier Nikita Khrushchev indicated he would like to visit the United States "when the time is ripe" in remarks to a correspondent. He spoke while inspecting the U S Air Force 707 jetliner that brought Vice President Richard M Nixon to Moscow from the United States.
