Battered Bandit Nabs After San Leandro Robbery Attempt
A 7 year old gunman was arrested by Oakland police after an attempted armed robbery at Midway Liquors in San Leandro. The suspect, Robert Washington, entered the store with a .32 caliber pistol, injured the proprietor with a bottle strike, and fired toward the owner and a customer as he fled in a 1950 black sedan. Washington was captured minutes later at 10th and Grove Streets in Oakland and taken to Fairmont Hospital for minor head injuries before being jailed.

He lit a clothes closet and under a bed, starting a fire that firefighters from Hayward saved the home after about an hour.
