Senate backs major tax cut bill simplifying forms
Washington reports the Senate approved 73 to 7 a tax cut bill to simplify tax forms and raise take home pay for most non itemizers. It would replace the standard deduction with a flat 2200 single and 3200 married rate and extend cuts through 1978 while adding a possible dependent credit for those over 65.

Hundreds apply for 70 jobs at Pasquinelli’s Farmhouse
In Newark a crowd of over 1,000 job seekers, mainly teens, queued at Cedar Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue to fill forms for 70 openings at the new Pasquinelli’s Farmhouse restaurant and bar scheduled to open May 46. Mary Gallagher and her husband Ray said they have 1,800 applications to screen and more workers were not available.

Hayward developers settle suits for 1.48 million
Great Lakes Development Co. agrees to a 1.48 million settlement to provide partial refunds to 7,500 buyers of Copper Cave Village in Calaveras County and Lake Camanche Village in Amador County.
