The idea aims to provoke transfers of vice squad officers and draws two resolutions: urging housewives to use exotic dance to aid marriages and protesting unsanitary dressing rooms in nightclubs.

NEWARK Two teenage Newark girls were arrested after attempting to pass multiple bad checks at Russell Market. A 14 year old tried to cash a $40 check, handwriting was spotted, leading to police pursuit. They confessed to sending checks to fictitious recipients and had two more checks for $70 and $110.
The Senate Interior Committee approved today a Democratic bill for federal construction of a high dam at Hells Canyon. The voice vote reportedly split along party lines with Sen. Arthur V. Watkins of Utah warning he would file a minority report with other GOP members.

The Atomic Energy Commission said at least two larger explosions in spring tests will be detonated from captive balloons over the Nevada desert. Yields will exceed 20 000 tons of TNT, compared with 15 000 tons for Hiroshima. Tests run May 15 through the summer with about 60 civil defense officials allowed to witness nine shots. six under 20 000 tons and three above. Smaller weapons and one larger will be exploded from steel towers, with study into sling shot detonations under tunnels at the proving ground.
A five day old strike at seven sugar beet processing plants spreads to the Imperial Valley as unions seek a shorter work week and a 10 to 12 percent wage hike. Present hourly wages range from 1.59 to 2.28 dollars, with management officials saying yesterday’s wage agreement will not affect the deadlock.
School trustees heard a poll showing one third of the district's 69 teachers may not return next year and two thirds seeking a higher salary range from 4090-6520 to 4500-7500 dollars. Senate GOP leader William F. Knowland said Congress will trim about three billion dollars from President Eisenhower’s budget to clear the way for tax cuts next year. He did not specify where cuts would come, and opposed Eisenhower’s 325 million dollar annual school construction program. At a U.S. Chamber of Commerce breakfast, Knowland praised the chamber’s push to cut at least five billion from the 71.9 billion spending plan.
Decoto police booked Oscar Pena and Marcelline Campa after a tavern fracas at the Arizona Cafe on E St. Pena faced charges for drunkenness and resisting arrest while Campa was held for resisting arrest. Deputies Dale Chambers and Robert Valin sustained facial and wrist injuries, respectively, during the melee.
California faces rapid drying with population doubling since 1940. Harv O Banks, state director of water resources, warned at the InterSociety Conference that demand exceeds supply by over five million acre feet annually and that by 1985 a shortage could exceed 10 million acre feet per season. He urged immediate construction of additional large projects to complement the Feather River project, currently stalled over rights between origin and need counties.
Washington Manor reports one of three Hills triplets died shortly after birth while the other two premature infants, weighing about two pounds, survive at Alameda Hospital. Doctors expect several weeks in incubation and note the mother is recovering well. The Hills live at 271 Devenshire Ave and have five older children.
