Woman in Castro Valley Shot by Rejected Suitor Then Commits Suicide
Mrs. Alice Profe, 36, of 6241 Barlow Drive, Castro Valley, was critically wounded by a .22 revolver shot by Elmer A. Schroeder, 46, who hid in her closet and then killed himself. Schroeder and Mrs. Profe had been involved since August, with the couple in a quarrel four days prior. Schroeder died at the scene. Mrs. Profe was treated at Fairmont and Oak Knoll hospitals. Her 11 year old son Duane received help from neighbors George and Mrs. Peters.
