Two Boys Find Man's Body in Lorenzo Creek
Two Hayward High School students found the body of 86 year old Newsome in Lorenzo Creek near Foot Hill while walking near San Lorenzo Creek by the school. Coroner says autopsy pending to determine cause of death. possibilities include fall from embankment or heart attack. Newsome, identified by authorities, resided at 21419 Foor Hi Blvd and had several children in Alameda County. Relatives say he often walked the school grounds.

Two convicts escaped San Quentin after 29 days in solitary confinement for kidnapping two people during a six hour hold up. Billy Joe Wright, 24, a burglar, was sent to Folsom Prison. William D. Werner, 24, another burglar, was sent for psychiatric evaluation at Vacaville. They threatened to try to escape again and briefly abducted Mrs. Louise Gschwend before authorities intervened. Dist. Atty. William Weissich pledged no charges for the kidnapping after the incident.

Group Boosts Radioactivity Safe Level
Washington reports the National Committee of Radiation Protection doubled the permissible strontium-80 level the human body may carry and raised by 25 percent the maximum strontium-50 in water and foods while cutting air limits by 30 percent. The advisory notes strontium-80, a long lived fallout hazard, concentrates in bones and can cause cancer. A blast at the Thompson-Hayward Chemical Co. plant in Kansas City Kansas killed three men and injured five.
