Across the state, fair to partly cloudy conditions prevail with coastal fog in the Bay Area and near Salinas, plus warmer interior highs reaching the mid to upper 70s. Northern regions see cloud cover some days and mild nights, while winds shift from northwest to southwest in varying speeds.

Authorities say investigations include a broader view of extremist networks.
In Fresno, Mr and Mrs Joe Gregory filed a 475000 damage suit in federal district court Wednesday. They accuse driver William Kramer of negligence after their 3 month old son Robert was struck and killed by a mail truck near their Fresno home while at play.
A city council released a previously withheld report on the February 24 slaying of John Grudt, a 55 year old film studio carpenter. The document says Grudt committed a deliberate assault with a deadly weapon against officers, using his car in two assaults before the police shot him as his vehicle rolled away.
In Elkhart Indiana the Palm Sunday tornadoes killed 132 people with 80 year old Anna Dillman dying from injuries at an Elkhart hospital. The Dunlap area near Elkhart reported 29 deaths as the storm devastated northern and central Indiana.
Gov Brown celebrated his 60th birthday with about 2,000 friends and political supporters at a champagne reception in the Cocoanut Grove. He joked about plans for a possible third term and said he is not coy about the age, noting he is younger than 60 in spirit.
Public Martin Meyerson approved a decision to dismiss one student and suspend three others from the University of California Berkeley for organizing rallies and using an obscene four letter word during a microphone reading. The suspended students include Michael L. Klein, Arthur Goldberg, Nicholas Vregintzav, and David Bills plus others faced action for displaying a sign with foul letters. Goldberg intends to appeal in court while some students defend the action as a matter of speech.
SACRAMENTO AP Organized labor won the first hurdle to curb strikebreaking as the Assembly Industrial Relations Committee approved a bill making it a misdemeanor to hire a strikebreaker. A 5-4 vote defined a strikebreaker as someone who takes three jobs during strikes within five years. Opponents warned it could curb employer hiring and hurt workers. Ben Martin of the California Newspaper Publishers Association warned similar laws in New York, Michigan, and Maryland sparked costly strikes, and small papers could be forced to fold.
LOS ANGELES AP Attorneys announced settlement of a four year old suit against Chino police officers accused of taking nude photographs of a waitress and distributing them to officers. The City of Chino will pay 1250 to Mrs Angelyna York 92 who withdraws her suit against Lt Ronald Story and Sgt Louis Moreno. York originally sought 25000 from each officer. The case gained attention when the ACLU carried her appeal to the Supreme Court which allowed her to sue in federal court for privacy and civil rights violations. York claimed officers photographed her nude while she went to the police station in November 1938 to complain of her husband's assault. The complaint alleged Story directed her to pose indecently in a rear room and take photographs.
Vladimir Horwitz, a Russian-born pianist, named Arizona’s newest town, returning to the stage after a 12 year absence. He said he would perform May 9 at Carnegie Hall, explaining why he performs far from the Mexican border.
