SAN LORENZO A Russell City mother of seven children escaped an attempted murder by her husband on the San Mateo Bridge Saturday night. Jose Solano, 28, 2506 Washington SE, Russell City, was booked at Santa Rita Prison on the charge. A passerby motorist stopped and pulled the woman free from Solano’s grasp, knocking him down, and helped her to Hayward police. The heroic act was witnessed by Solano’s four children aged two to five and an eight-year-old neighbor. Mrs Solano said her husband continued to threaten her. Continued on page 2.
SAN FRANCISCO, April reports a 73 year old retired sheepherder Jean Louis Pitavin shot and killed his landlady Leontine Lacassi 78 at 76 Bayview Street during an Easter Sunday dispute over last year s Easter dinner. Pitavin then shot himself in the jaw with a death rifle and was listed in good condition. He later told a neighbor he argued over whether they had roast goat or rack of lamb for Easter dinner last year.
Parents of Jack R. Nash arrived in Paris en route to Istanbul to search for his body. Nash, 32, was killed when blown through a broken window and fell about 18,000 feet on an Air France flight between Baghdad and Istanbul after a cabin window shattered with an explosive sound.
A telephone caller threatened to bomb the Department of Motor Vehicles Building in Sacramento today. The two-block long structure houses about 2000 state employees. DMV officials advised staff to go home shortly after the 9:45 a.m. call.

Peter Clayton Lapioli, 44, believed to be the estranged husband of Ora Lapioli, 36, died this morning at High Island Hospital after a double shooting in a Bay-O Vista parked car. Mrs. Lapioli died at Fairfield hospital. three children survive. Police reconstruct a likely sequence of a murder suicide, noting the couple had been separated since December and that reconciliation attempts had occurred.
